Free afterschool programs for New York City students are offering activities like sports, arts, college prep and more at no cost to parents.

Mia Diaz, 11, is a confident burst of sass, beaming from the stage for everyone to see as she plays Scar in “The Lion King” at an after-school program play in Queens.

The soon-to-be sixth grader from Corona loves reading and writing, but she realized last year that she also loves theater.
