NYE will collect and analyze three systems of data – school level, Community School internal  systems, and student/family feedback – to ensure we have a comprehensive and accurate  picture of student progress regarding three critical measures of student performance:  absenteeism, SEL, and academics. We use quantitative metrics to evaluate areas of need,  the effectiveness of interventions, and Community School events. This robust data tracking  approach ensures that staff has comprehensive data to make holistic and informed decisions.

NYE has over 30 years of experience in providing ELT to the youth of NYC. Our approach  to ELT is based on holistic support of each student through high quality programming that  integrates, extends, and expands on school day instruction. NYE has the ability to offer  comprehensive enrichment activities that can take place during afterschool, during the  school day, during the summer or during evenings and/or weekends. The goal of our ELT  programs is to increase opportunity and access for every student to explore a variety of  activities throughout the school year. These experiences include academic enrichment and  discovery designed to enhance daily learning by reinforcing academic skills and providing  project-based learning.

In addition to ensuring that families and community members play an integral role in  decision-making, we also assess the needs of individual families and the community as a  whole to identify and align resources that address those needs. We gather feedback through  surveys, the PTO, Parent Coordinators, and Parent Advocates, and create a continuous  feedback loop that allows us to be responsive to the evolving needs of the community.

NYE believes that collaborative leadership – one of the four pillars of the community schools  model – is the foundation for a successful Community School. Collaborative leadership  brings together all program stakeholders, meaningfully includes their voices, leverages their  expertise, fosters development and ownership, and builds sustainability of a shared plan.  The vehicle for our collaborative leadership efforts will be the Community School Support  Team (CSST), which will include representatives of the school, NYE as lead Community  School partner, family members, community members, program partners, and students.  Working together, CSST members will build trust among one another and develop an organic,  authentic Community School mission, vision, and supporting structures and practices.

As a part of the Attendance Team, the Community School Director determines which students need extra attendance support and works with school leadership to develop attendance improvement strategies which may include assigning Success Mentors who conduct daily outreach. By addressing barriers and fostering an environment that encourages high rates of attendance, NYE works with school leaders to increase student attendance, which is the gateway to increased engagement in all areas of achievement. Attendance improvement strategies may include, but are not limited to, offering incentives such as gift cards, trips and sporting events, conducting home visits and more.
